Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I opened the S Brown Studio-Gallery in 1964 on Roswell Rd, in the block of the old Buckhead theatre (now the Roxie). After 7 years, I moved next door to the theatre in a duplex-store to the Piel Paint Store. I was there for 17-1/2 happy years. Until the area of Peachtree, Roswell Rd and Paces Ferry became quite "run down". The studio and teaching was moved out to the old Mill in Roswell. I was there three fun years, but the Mill didn't do well, but Buckhead was getting cleaned up. I moved into a new little palce on Miami Circle. After enjoying 5 years there, I took over my downstairs apartment in Garden Hills and knocked out walls and made larger windows for the light. This is where I am now, still teaching and painting.
What is your primary product or service?
I enjoy teaching adults, both beginners and advanced in drawing and painting: charcoal, oils, pastels and watercolors. I paint portraits, large florals, wild and domestic animals. I particularly like to paint children and pets. Please check out my website: sarahbrownstudio.com
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I knew in the fourth grade that I "wanted to be an artist". (whatever that meant). I was fortunate to be able to go the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated with a BFA degree from the University of Chicago. I graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA on the Faculty Honor Roll and with honors in Figure Drawing and also in Figure Painting.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I consider it a privilege to teach art to my students and to be able to make a living doing something I love doing.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have one location where "it all happens".
Provide detailed directions to your location

What type of payments do you accept?
